It is with both sadness and excitement that we announce the departure of Brooke van Mossel-Forrester as our Business Development and Communications Director. Brooke is leaving us to begin a new journey as a mother. Taking Root is very focused on building healthy communities, which are deeply rooted in families and mothers. Thus we are thrilled to welcome the first new baby to our Canadian team!
“I am very thankful for the time I’ve had as part of Taking Root’s staff. My deep thanks go out to our dedicated teams in Canada and Nicaragua, as well as our incredible partners, for such an unforgettable experience!” – Brooke
Brooke is a founding member of Taking Root and has been integral to the success of the organization since 2007. Welcoming a New Member to the Team
Taking Root is pleased to welcome Brianna LePiane as the new Marketing and Communication Officer. Her experience in marketing and her passion for sustainability make Brianna a great fit for Taking Root. Brianna has worked as a Sales Representative for BSI Biodegradable Solutions, was formerly an Environmental Committee member at the Fairmont Pacific Rim and has worked as an interpreter for a cultural exchange program connecting First Nations youth with indigenous communities in Guatemala. Brianna has been looking for a way to connect her passion for the Latin American language and culture with a business application that promotes the well-being of people and the planet.
“It is rare to find a role that allows you to connect so many different passions and values. I feel privileged and excited to be welcomed into the Taking Root family.”
Brianna has a B.A. in Hispanic Studies from the University of Victoria and participated in a year abroad program in Spain in 2004. In 2007 her educational background brought her on an extraordinary journey as an interpreter for a youth exchange program. The exchange included members of the Provincial Aboriginal Youth Council in B.C. and members of Mojomayas (“movement of Mayan youth”) from Guatemala. The two groups travelled together all over B.C., Canada then in Guatemala participating in cultural workshops, spiritual ceremonies and delivering presentations. The participants connected on a wide range of topics from similarities in ceremony by demonstrating respect for nature, to expressing frustrations concerning access to resources, and sharing tools and ideas on how to build strong First Nations communities.
Brianna graduated from British Columbia Institute of Technology with a diploma in Marketing Management. Her areas of focus include sustainability, social enterprise development and corporate social responsibility.
